SOFIA, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Mihaela Dotsova from the Progressive Bulgaria, the largest parliamentary group, was elected as chairperson of Bulgarian National Assembly, on Thursday.
Dotsova got the support from 188 members of the 240-seat legislature, while 49 abstained.
The Progressive Bulgaria coalition, led by former President Rumen Radev, won 131 seats in the 240-member parliament in the parliamentary elections on April 19, according to final results announced by the country's Central Election Commission.
Dotsova, born in 1984, is a legal expert with experience in state administration and the legislative branch.
After being elected, Dotsova said that the new parliament had to restore the best practices in Bulgarian lawmaking, and be guided by the sustainability of decisions rather than short-term expediency.
Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova attended the first session of the new parliament.
The president will task the largest parliamentary group with forming a government. The proposed government must be approved by a simple majority vote. ■
